Seahawks put Jay Cutler to the Test Sunday Night
Baptism of fire. Jay Cutler will have exactly that on NFL Sunday Night Football.
Denver Broncos Mike Shanahan has already given veteran quarterback Jake Plummer the boot. Rookie Jay Cutler will take over the offense and this weekend, Cutler will make his QB debut as a starter on prime time, NFL Sunday Night Football.
You can just imagine the pressure Jay Cutler is on right now. And yeah, you can bet your ass Jake Plummer is just waiting for Cutler to commit mistakes, one after another. Quarterbacks like him and Drew Bledsoe, are not fond of these kids taking their jobs after one bad game.
The move enables Broncos coach Mike Shanahan to join the infamous ”Super Six” of NFL Football coaches.
Shanahan had long been a prominent partner within the active coaching elite that also included Marty Schottenheimer, Bill Parcells, Joe Gibbs, Bill Cowher and Mike Holmgren. They are the top six among active coaches in wins, top 17 overall. Going game after game after game with the same quarterback, though, was threatening to ostracize Shanahan from pooh-bah status.
If Jay Cutler can live up to Shanahan’s expectations, then he will truly bring back the name of Mike Shanahan among one of the best NFL coaches ever. If he fails, Mike Shanahan will be nothing more but a joke.
The Seattle Seahawks will come in riding high from a win over Brett Favre and his Green Bay Packers. Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck made his return to the Seahawks lineup against the PACK on Monday Night Football. Although struggling at first, Hasselbeck showed the Green Bay defense why he is a Pro Bowl quarterback.
And yeah, Shaun Alexander resumed his hunger for yards during that game too.
The odds are against Denver Broncos QB Jay Cutler. If Cutler can, in some way, find Javon Walker and get him the football pass Seahawks cornerback Marcus Trufant nine to ten times, he will make Mike Shanahan look like a genius. Otherwise, we’ll see Plummer back faster than you can say OOPS.

Dwight Howard made NBA Experts look Stupid
Well, after Dwight Howard’s explosive start to the NBA Basketball season, I guess these guys ain’t no ”NBA Experts” anymore eh?
It was 2004 when the Orlando Magic decided to draft Dwight Howard instead of Emeka Okafor. That night, many believed the Orlando Magic just made one terrible mistake. Of course, they didn’t knew then just how Howard will improve in his STILL very young NBA Basketball career.
Dick Vitale on the Magic drafting Dwight Howard instead of Emeka Okafor, “In 10 years, man, they’re going to regret not taking Mr. Okafor.”
Stephen A. Smith said, ”The Orlando Magic cannot play a guessing game. Emeka Okafor is the man. He’s the answer.”
Jay Bilas was on it too, saying, ”[Okafor] may make the Magic regret this.”
Well, after a couple of weeks since this season started, it looks like these so-called ”NBA Experts” were the ones wrong. And when you compare Emeka Okafor to Dwight Howard today, hell, Howard is HANDS DOWN the choice.
Heck, some say they’d rather have this man-child rather than Shaquille O’Neal himself. And judging by the way the Miami Heat season has gone so far, I will too.
Drafting Howard, despite objections from the experts, was gutsy. Any NBA executive will tell you Okafor is a good player, but Howard is on the verge of greatness. Three years into his career, Howard is already the top rebounder in NBA Basketball. And he’s still only 20 for crying out loud.
”Taking Dwight was a no-brainer,” Orlando Magic GM Otis Smith says now. ”It was not as hard a decision as people made it out to be. Emeka will have a great career, but we think Dwight has a chance to be special.”
And we’re all bearing witness to that these days.

Early Christmas for a Merry Shawne Merriman
There sure is a reason to be merry for Shawne Merriman.
After a month-long ban slapped on Shawne Merriman because of his alleged steroid-use, the San Diego Chargers OLB will be back Sunday for the Bolts as they take on the Buffalo Bills.
Yup, Merriman returned to the San Diego Chargers lineup Monday, flashing a new haircut with the words, ”Lights Out,” carved into his hair. He he… Merriman sure has a way to draw attention to himself eh?
Well, after San Diego’s 9-2 start, Merriman will certainly NEED to draw all the attention that he can muster. The Chargers, leading the AFC West after 12 weeks of NFL Football, doesn’t seem to miss their star linebacker at all.
And yeah, him coming back JUST MIGHT mess things up for what the Chargers have going. Although having a monster running back like LaDanian Tomlinson will certainly make one laugh at that premise a little bit.
”I think I’ll be a little bit anxious waiting for Sunday to get here, but Sunday I’ll be fine, just getting out there, flying around, knocking some heads,” Lights Out Shawne Merriman said.
Merriman earned the nickname with his jarring hits, and he celebrates sacks by pretending to flip a switch tattooed on his forearm, followed by a spasmodic dance. He was tied for the NFL Football lead with eight sacks when his suspension began on Nov.1. He’s now tied with six other players for the fifth-highest total.
For what it’s worth, Shawne Merriman has denied he’s a steroid cheat, saying the positive test stemmed from a tainted supplement. He has refused to identify the supplement because his attorney has threatened a lawsuit against the manufacturer.
Of course, we know better.
Can Shawne Merriman lead the San Diego Chargers to the playoffs? Bet and play WagerTalk’s NFL Football Handicapping Contest and decide for yourself. Make your picks now.

Trash Talking Grossman to lead Bears VS Vikings
What?!? The Backstreet Boy look-a-like, Rex Grossman, is talking trash?!?
Yep, apparently, the Chicago Bears quarterback CAN talk trash. Especially if he’s playing the Bears’ most hated rivals, the Minnesota Vikings. These two teams have been going at it for years now and on Sunday, inside the Bears’ den at Soldier Field, the Vikings and the Bears will resume one of the best rivalries in NFL Football.
The Chicago Bears and the Minnesota Vikings met in Week 3 of this NFL Football season. Rex Grossman was phenomenal then, rallying his Bears and throwing a 24-yard touchdown pass to Rashied Davis.
Oh yeah, Rex Grossman was so hot that week that he couldn’t help but run his mouth and talk trash to the Minnesota Vikings safeties, the Vikings defense and to Vikings free safety Darren Sharper.
You can bet your ass Darren Sharper didn’t appreciate that at all. And yeah, he can’t wait to face Grossman again on that NFL Football field this Sunday.
”He’s a confident guy. We sensed that from the way he was running his mouth when he played us that he was very confident. So we’ll see how confident he is on Sunday,” Darren Sharper said.
”He was running his mouth pretty much the whole game, especially when he threw that last touchdown pass. He came over and said some things to my fellow safety and some defensive players and said something to me as well. So he’s a cocky guy and he’s going to say those things. But make sure he’s not the guy who kills their season for them so we’ll see what happens on Sunday.”
He he… Well Darren, if you’ve been watching Chicago Bears football the past few weeks, you’ll know that Rex Grossman ain’t that hot anymore. However, THAT doesn’t mean they won’t be beating you guys down come Sunday. Yep, I like them Bears baby!
”When he threw that last touchdown pass it was pretty much in-your-face-type comments. Everyone on our defense remembers what he did and how he was acting. He got caught up in the moment, being a young guy. He made a big play for his team to win a big game so he decided to be a little brash and talk trash a little bit. But there’s always another time you face a team. This is another time for us to face him,” Sharper added.

The New York Knicks Mess in NBA Basketball
We’ve come a long way haven’t we?
From watching Patrick Ewing and John Starks carry the New York Knicks to become one of the best basketball teams in the world at that time to seeing Allan Houston and Larry Johnson bring their Knicks team to some of the most exciting finishes in NBA history, these new set of Knicks JUST SUCK.
There I said it. They suck. These new Knicks, now led by Stephon Marbury and Steve Francis, are nowhere in comparison to the Knicks we all loved and enjoyed watching.
Hell, they tried everything, they signed everyone, their salary cap space is about to explode, and STILL, with all the trades and free agent signings they made since losing the last ”respectable” set of New York Knicks (led by Allan Houston of course, and later, Latrell Sprewell…) they still don’t have a single NBA playoffs stint to show for.
Go figure.
New York Knicks rivals, Pat Riley and Alonzo Mourning, could probably walk away from the game without seeing their most hated rivals get up from the grave they are in right now. And yep, these Knicks have Isiah Thomas to blame for it.
Now, after making one moronic trade after another, Isiah Thomas is trying to coach the very team he assembled in the first place, hoping to salvage a franchise once synonymous to winning. After a couple of weeks, the Knicks still SUCK. He he…
What has been the problem? Well, for one, Isiah Thomas is the Knicks’ coach. Thomas is STILL their general manager. They’re an atrocious home team with the fans booing them so vociferously and yeah, did I mention they have four point guards on the roster, but all four of them have this shoot-first mentality?
After acquiring basically everyone in the league, these Knicks will be in SALARY CAP HELL through 2009 all because of this moron named Isiah. And NO, these Knicks players are not doing anything to prove they deserve all that money. Hell, these guys can’t even make wide open jumpers even if their life depended on it. And if they’re not making their jumpers, they can lose by 25 to anyone in the league, as well as some NBDL teams and possibly Florida and Kansas.
Pathetic.

FAU Owls will see Bowl Games, but not Today
Yep, the Florida Atlantic Owls ended their NCAA College Football season with the utter destruction of Florida International, 31-0.
It was Florida Atlantic’s fifth victory of the season, that’s three more wins than in 2005. And yeah, the Owls ending their 2006 NCAA College Football season the way they did last Saturday means their future should be bright. After all they will only lose 11 seniors, only four of those are starters.
”That’s a great feeling,” junior safety Taheem Acevedo said. ”I know that’s a great feeling for the coaches, the staff and all the people who cheers on FAU. It’s a great feeling knowing all the players are coming back with a lot more experience. It’s going to be exciting next year.”
The Owls should be in position to make a run at the Sun Belt Conference championship and a bowl bid in 2007.
”If we don’t win the conference next year, it’s going to be a major disappointment,” junior defensive end Josh Pinnick said.
The Florida Atlantic Owls came close to achieving its goal this season. The Owls, who started 0-4 after a brutal non-conference schedule that included Clemson, Oklahoma State, Kansas State and South Carolina, were competitive once they reached conference play. FAU finished 4-3 in the Sun Belt and defeated Division I-AA Southern Utah to finish 5-7.
”To win four conference games, and being competitive in all of them surely indicates that we used our maturity wisely and to our advantage,” FAU head coach Howard Schnellenberger said.
The Owls are set at quarterback. Redshirt freshman Rusty Smith emerged as the likely long-term starter after replacing Sean Clayton several weeks ago. Smith had two touchdown passes in Saturday’s victory over FIU.
”I think Rusty had a really good game,” coach Schnellenberger said. ”He managed the game well.”

Michael Vick Flips and Flings the Finger
Michael Vick is struggling. Michael Vick is disappointed. Michael Vick is frustrated. Oh yeah, Michael Vick is PISSED.
Yup, last Sunday, Michael Vick, quarterback extraordinaire of the Atlanta Falcons, showed the rest of NFL Football just how he feels these days. After starting strong with a 5-2 mark, the Falcons lost FOUR games in a row, FOUR! That’s losing for an entire month. And whoever loses THAT much will definitely make one give that VERY BEAUTIFUL middle finger salute.
Michael Vick is frustrated, and with all those frustrations, accompanied by fading playoff hopes and unexpected insults from home fans, caused him to flash an obscene hand gesture on Sunday.
Well, for what it’s worth, he apologized in a written statement late Sunday for making the gesture toward fans with both hands following the crushing 31-13 loss to the New Orleans Saints. He
also vowed on Monday to never make the same mistake.
”I would have never thought that six years into my career I would ever do something like that,” Michael Vick said. ”It will never happen again. Never.”
Well, with only five games left and sitting second to last in their own NFC South division, they might as well just play those five games out, not expecting anything like home field advantage in the playoffs, or even one wild card invite. That way, Vick won’t be as frustrated to the point that he’s flipping the finger on basically everyone else.
The Atlanta Falcons should just play these remaining five weeks as spoilers instead of this struggling NFL Football team trying to make the playoffs. Sad as it may seem, the Falcons won’t make the playoffs this season with the kind of game they are playing right now.
And yeah, you can’t blame Michael Vick entirely too.
Some say Vick is playing as a coach killer. For those who don’t understand sports language, coach killers are players who perform so bad, they get their coaches fired. Well, Vick is not one of them.
The problem with the Atlanta Falcons is not Michael Vick but the wide receivers. These days, the Atlanta wideouts just can’t run their routes right, can’t break free from opposing cornerbacks enough and just can’t catch the goddamn football, something wide receivers are there on that field for.
You can’t expect Michael Vick to do it all and it seems the Atlanta Falcons are expecting Vick to do just that. That’s why he’s frustrated, that’s why he’s pissed, that’s why he’s flipping the finger.
Can Michael Vick lead the Atlanta Falcons to the playoffs? Bet and play WagerTalk’s NFL Football Handicapping Contest and decide for yourself. Make your picks now.

Toilet NFL Football Game between Raiders and Texans
Two pathetic teams meet on NFL Football Sunday as the Texans visit the Raiders in Oakland.
If you’re STILL reading this article about these two pathetic NFL Football teams and their no-bearing game on Sunday, then you should know that both teams will come into their match with a miserable losing streak.
The Oakland Raiders haven’t beaten anybody in their own AFC West division. Hell, they managed to beat only one team in the AFC Conference anyway and that’s the pathetic and struggling Super Bowl champions, Pittsburgh Steelers. The Raiders lost four games in a row. That includes a somewhat controversial loss to the monstrous running back, LaDainian Tomlinson and his San Diego Chargers, leaders of their own AFC West.
At least three
Raiders officials sought out an NFL official in the press box Sunday in hopes of getting a suitable explanation for the fourth-quarter ruling that went against the Oakland Raiders in their 21-14 loss to the San Diego Chargers. Again and again, Raider officials walked away dissatisfied.
Oakland Raiders head coach Art Shell and defensive tackle Warren Sapp said they sought an explanation from referee Mike Carey during the lengthy discussion that ensued Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson’s spinning the ball forward after a 13-yard reception. Player and coach said they didn’t understand Carey calling Jackson’s voluntary action an illegal forward pass. So, Shell called Mike Pereira, NFL supervisor of officials, as soon as he boarded a plane for the trip home from San Diego.
Of course, we all know that with or without that play, LaDainian Tomlinson WILL find a way to beat these Raiders anyway.
As for the Houston Texans, they lost back-to-back games already and could be on the verge of losing their third straight against a very pissed Oakland Raiders defense.
Oh yeah, when Texans quarterback, David Carr, passed for more than 300 yards against the New York Jets last Sunday, wideout Andre Johnson couldn’t care less. Why? In spite the milestone performance from Carr, the Texans still lost to the Jets, 26-11 and THAT is not something to be happy about, especially if they just dropped their second straight game.
”It was our worst performance as receivers,” Andre Johnson said. ”That’s frustrating. This is my fourth year here now, and after all (the losses) it kind of wears and tears on you.”
Both the Oakland Raiders and the Houston Texans are pissed and on NFL Football Sunday, both teams will have the chance to let all their frustrations out on the football field.

Seahawks host the PACK on Monday Night Football
The Seahawks are not at full strength, the Packers are struggling, Monday Night Football is their chance for redemption.
Yep, the Seattle Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers collide at the house that running back Shaun Alexander built as Brett Favre and the rest of the PACK travel to Qwest Field. The Seahawks will have their all-star running back for the game but the problem is, they STILL will miss their QB, Matt Hasselbeck.
Shaun Alexander and Matt Hasselbeck have been sidelined with injuries for much of the season. Alexander, who returned Nov.15, suffered a broken foot which had sidelined him for seven weeks, while Hasselbeck has missed the last three starts for the 6-4 Seahawks because of a sprained knee.
The injured quarterback has already been practicing but Seattle Seahawks head coach, Mike Holmgren doesn’t want to take the risk yet. Well, they don’t need it yet anyway. Even with a mediocre 6-4 stand, the Seahawks STILL leads the pathetic NFC West division.
On the other hand, Green Bay Packers quarterback, Brett Favre, will come into this NFL Football game with a rejuvenated love for football. He has discovered the fountain of youth the past few weeks and he’s playing as if he just got to the prime of his career.
The only problem for Brett Favre is the rest of his team doesn’t share the same love. The rest of the team is struggling. The Packers are at a dismal 4-6 mark and with a Chicago Bears team leading their NFC North division, there’s no way in hell Brett Favre’s boys will be able to catch Rex Grossman’s Bears.
Yep, even after Chicago lost to the New England Patriots this week.
One thing to get the Packers going is to establish a solid running game. And it’s looking like Green Bay is ready to do just that. ”I think you need to run the football consistently every week, and the last two weeks we haven’t done a very good job of that,” Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski said. ”But that’s something we have to keep doing and keep practicing, and it will turn around.”
Who will win this NFL Monday Night Football game between the Packers and the Seahawks? Can Seattle beat the Packers or will Green Bay upset the Seahawks? Bodog has the odds.
Should Kevin Garnett give his Big Ticket to Someone Else?
Why is Kevin Garnett STILL staying in Minnesota?
I don’t know about you but I strongly feel that Kevin Garnett SHOULD just leave Minnesota, talk to his former coach Flip Saunders, and be the starting forward for the Detroit Pistons. But that’s just me.
For some reason, Kevin Garnett is still letting a fucked up team like the Minnesota Timberwolves enjoy his unparalleled talents. Kevin Garnett is quite simply, THE MAN in today’s NBA Basketball but as talented as KG is, the Minnesota Timberwolves can’t seem to win.
Blame it on the coaches, blame it on their stupid roster moves, blame it on anyone. But as far as trying to win goes, KG is doing it by his lonesome right now because there is virtually nobody in a Timberwolves uniform talented enough to earn this team a ‘W.’
Kevin Garnett should have flipped out by now. He should arrive for home games wearing a sweatshirt that reads I HATE IT HERE. He should give Dwane Casey the nickname *Expletive Deleted*. He should call Marko Jaric, Ricky Davis and Mark Blount Loser No.1, Loser No.2 and Loser No.3 and refer to Kevin McHale only as ”the Guy Who Ruined My Life.”
He should be looking to get whistled for a ”flagrant nine” foul and lying on scorers’ tables on the road praying for a drunken spectator to lob a beer at him so he can break out his best Ron Artest moves. He should hire Sam Cassell and Latrell Sprewell impersonators to go with him everywhere, just so he can tell anyone who asks that he wants a reminder of the one season when he didn’t want to kill somebody.
Yep, the Minnesota Timberwolves franchise is doing NOTHING to better KG’s situation in Minnesota. After trading away Sam Cassell, a proven veteran who has now single handedly turn the Los Angeles Clippers from whipping boys to playoff contenders, for a Marko Jaric who can’t shoot the basketball at point blank range even if his life depended on it, proves just how pathetic the organization is.
It’s like, ”let’s kill our cap space, make MORE moronic trades, draft a couple more yahoos and see if KG snaps.”
