NFL Football vs. NCAA College Football Round Two

August 31, 2006 at 9:05 am (Uncategorized)

Here we go again, it’s NFL Football facing off with NCAA College Football for another round.

Last time, I asked you guys which brand of football would you rather watch. And with NFL Football having the almighty Super Bowl, I guess NFL Football won that round.

This time, I’m going to ask you guys which brand of football do you think has the better atmosphere on the 100-yard football field.

Football weekends are what make this time of the year a fuckin’ great time to be a fan of good ol’ fashioned sports. Yup, it’s the perfect time to gather the crew inside your basement with a big screen TV and of course, a whole lot of beer.

Well, for all ya’ll who can’t afford those monster flat screeners, there’s always barbecue anyway.

But the question is, would you rather watch professional NFL Football teams on a God-given Sunday or would you rather gather all your college friends for a round of beer while rooting for the university that made you’re life a living hell?More than college and pro basketball fans or American League and National League baseball fans, the schism between NCAA College Football and NFL Football fans defines a sport.

You can watch both, but at heart, you’re either singing the alma mater and following recruiting news or managing your fantasy roster and checking out news from training camp.

With that said, I guess singing the alma mater just feels better than rooting for a football team assembled by this degenerate business tycoons. And in NCAA College Football, you don’t have to be a sports fan to root for your OWN school. After all, you ARE rooting for ”one of your own” anyway.

Unlike professional teams that may get relocated to another city anyway.

Oh yeah, speaking of NCAA College Football, WagerTalk is having this NCAA College Football handicapping contest where you can bet on your favorite NCAA College Football teams, and your OWN alma mater of course.

Ya’ think the Texas Longhorns will repeat as NCAA College Football champions this season? Then by god, bet on ‘em. And what better to cash in those… um… CASH than joining WagerTalk’s NCAA College Football handicapping contest and win.

Easy.

Bodog has all the odds, be it in NFL Football or NCAA College Football. No matter which of the two football programs you’ll be watching this season, Bodog wants you to bet, and here are just some of the odds that just might make you do just that.

Odds to win Super Bowl XLI of in Miami, Florida:

Indianapolis Colts 6/1

Seattle Seahawks 11/1

Pittsburgh Steelers 10/1

Odds to win BCS Championship:

Oklahoma Sooners 6/1

USC Trojans 8/1

Texas Longhorns 8/1

NFL Football Tandems that Burn Batman and Robin

August 29, 2006 at 9:39 am (Uncategorized)

It’s NFL Football season baby and you just know ya’ll can’t wait to see deep 80-yard touchdown passes on the field.

But first things first, for all ya’ll new to the game of NFL Football, (jeez… were you living on a goddamn rock or something?) plays from a solid quarterback-wide receiver combination are the plays that land on SportsCenter and ESPN highlights.

Yep, let’s face it, the running game is as effective as any other strategy on a coach’s playbook but c’mon, we all want to see deep balls and you need a solid QB-WR chemistry to pull those things off.

With that said, here are just some of the best quarterback-wide receiver combinations for the coming NFL Football season that will definitely kick both Batman’s and Robin’s ass anytime, anywhere.

Drew Bledose (QB) and Terrell Owens (WR) of the Dallas Cowboys.

Although these two guys haven’t had the opportunity of playing alongside each other yet, because of Terrell Owens’ dumb ego of course, this tandem is certainly one to watch in the coming NFL Football season. A tandem that could very well send the Dallas Cowboys to a Super Bowl XLI win in Miami, Florida.

Peyton Manning (QB) and Marvin Harrison (WR) of the Indianapolis Colts.

Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison snapped Steve Young and Jerry Rice’s NFL mark of 85 TDs by a QB-WR tandem back on Oct. 17, 2005, against the St. Louis Rams. The two know each other inside-out at this point and continue to be one of the most feared duos in NFL Football.

Carson Palmer (QB) and Chad Johnson (WR) of the Cincinnati Bengals.

Carson Palmer and Chad Johnson once took a trip to Indianapolis to see how Peyton Manning and Marvin Harrison worked together. They obviously learned something, because last season they were nearly unstoppable. Palmer’s injured knee concerns Bengals fans, but if he stays healthy, this duo is on its way to becoming one of the most prolific in NFL Football history.

Which tandem will see their NFL Football team advance to Miami, Florida and win Super Bowl XLI? Sports Interaction has the outright odds.

Dallas Cowboys 15.00

Indianapolis Colts 7.00

Cincinnati Bengals 26.00

F1 Drivers Championship goes Down the Wire

August 28, 2006 at 9:01 am (Uncategorized)

For the sake of Michael Schumacher and the rest of Ferrari, let’s hope it won’t go down the drain.

After a golden opportunity wasted in Hungary, where Michael Schumacher had the guaranteed championship points with Fernando Alonso of Renault already retired only to retire himself with just a couple of laps to go, it was an entirely different story at the 2006 Turkish Grand Prix.

Yup, with Ferrari driver no.2 Felipe Massa ending up at the podium’s top spot and last year’s inaugural Turkish GP winner Kimi Raikkonen having an early retirement, it was an ENTIRELY different story alright.

But none compares to what Schumi found out.

After wasting an already guaranteed valuable championship points in Hungary, Michael Schumacher found out that Fernando Alonso and Renault are back to form and are ready to fend off the streaking German from overtaking the Spaniard in this season’s race for the F1 drivers championship.

The result? Fernando Alonso finished with a strong second place to Felipe Massa’s 2006 Turkish Grand Prix victory whereas all Schumi could do was settle for one last attempt to maneuver his Ferrari in front of Alonso’s Renault, meters away from the checkered flag, before settling for third.

Close but no cigar.

This gave Fernando Alonso another 10 points that extended his lead over Michael Schumacher to 13. Alonso with his 108 championship points, can now just sit back and remain consistent with four more grand prix battles to go, and if the Spaniard can do that, the 2006 F1 championship is his for the taking.

Michael Schumacher on the other hand, has 95 championship points and will need to place higher than Alonso at the podium in each of the four remaining F1 races. Oh yeah, aside from that difficult task, Schumi also needs Alonso to place third in one of them while he finishes first for him to retake the F1 championship.

Trust me, I calculated all this F1 championship points mumbo jumbo.

Can Michael Schumacher win the next four races to win the 2006 F1 Drivers Championship? Visit and bet on Bodog today.

Jerry Rice Retires as a 49er in NFL Football

August 25, 2006 at 9:18 am (Uncategorized)

Um… Didn’t he retired already?

He he… Yep, the saga surrounding Jerry Rice finally took a ”respectable ending” when he signed a one-day contract with the San Francisco 49ers only to retire where it all began.

San Francisco.

Jerry Rice spent his favorite days as a professional NFL Football player on the green practice fields next to the railroad tracks that run behind the San Francisco 49ers’ training complex. Here, one Jerry Rice honed his uncanny skill of catching a football in midair, in almost improbable situations. Yep, it is here where one Jerry Rice became a legend. Or started becoming one.

”I would like to put the uniform on and run on that football field, but I think it’s time to move on,” Jerry Rice said as he pointed to the football field where the current San Francisco 49ers were practicing.

”I feel welcome here. I feel like this is my home, and this is something I’ll never forget,” he added.

Jerry Rice already announced his retirement as a part of the Denver Broncos, a team that probably didn’t recognize the worth a Jerry Rice is to NFL Football. And to think he left the Silver and Black of the Oakland Raiders to be with this good for nothing, godforsaken team.

Yep, I’m a huge Jerry Rice fan when he was with the Raiders. Man, they were almost unstoppable with him and Rich Gannon. I couldn’t say the same with them Raiders now, unfortunately.

”He played with a burning passion that the NFL had never seen before,” San Francisco 49ers owner John York said.

”It’s great to see him back with the 49ers.”

Well, speaking of wide receivers who made a name for himself with the San Francisco 49ers, will this asshole named Terrell Owens do the same when it’s all said and done? Hmm… That is if this dimwit can find a team who’ll actually take him back when he’s a hundred years old or so.

Can the San Francisco 49ers win Super Bowl XLI in Miami, Florida? BetOnline has the odds on who will do just that:

San Francisco 49ers +12000

Denver Broncos +1000

Dallas Cowboys +800

Pittsburgh Steelers +900

Problem within the Iowa Hawkeyes College Football Camp

August 25, 2006 at 9:13 am (Uncategorized)

The Iowa Hawkeyes doesn’t need this coming to the brand new NCAA College Football season.

Iowa Hawkeyes defensive end Kenny Iwebema and wide receiver Herb Grigsby were suspended for their NCAA College Football season opener against Montana on September 2.

Kenny Iwebema already missed the first week of practice because of ”personal issues.” Well, that is according to the Iowa Hawkeyes head coach Kirk Ferentz anyway. Coach Kirk Ferentz issued a statement and it made no further comment on the suspensions sanctioned to its players.

Kenny Iwebema, a 6-foot-4, 270-pound junior, is considered one of the nation’s top defensive linemen. He is on the preseason watch list for the Ted Hendricks Defensive End of the Year Award after having seven sacks in 2005.

Herb Grigsby, also a junior, is expected to play a major role in Iowa’s offense this season. He caught 25 passes last season for 335 yards and three touchdowns in a backup role.

STILL, enthusiasm for Iowa football continues at a high level. It was announced that student season tickets have been sold out for the second straight year. The sellout came two weeks earlier than last year’s announcement. A total of 10,490 student season tickets have been sold to Iowa’s seven home games. The Hawkeyes open their season Sept. 2nd against Montana in Kinnick Stadium. The historic stadium, home to Iowa football since 1929, is nearing completion of an $88 million dollar face lift and renovation.

Approximately 300 tickets remain for the season opener against Montana. All other games are sold out. The Hawkeyes have played before 17 straight home sellouts and expect to add seven more games to that total this year.

Can the Iowa Hawkeyes win the BCS Championship? Sports Interaction has the outright odds on some teams that will do just that:

Iowa Hawkeyes 34.00

Clemson Tigers 51.00

Louisville Cardinals 21.00

USC Trojans 11.00

Texas Longhorns 16.00

Time is TIKING Away for Tiki Barber in NFL Football

August 25, 2006 at 9:07 am (Uncategorized)

Yep, apparently, Tiki Barber STILL doesn’t have any Super Bowl championship rings in NFL Football.

And just like the rest of the aging men in sports, (think Karl Malone) Tiki Barber of the New York Giants is slowly fading and might retire without ever becoming a champion. Well, he is 31 now and before you know it, father time will have him by the neck at 35.

No matter how big and strong he is.

”There is probably more sense of urgency for me now, as I approach the season, because I know there isn’t a lot of time left for me to be ultimately successful, and win a Super Bowl,” said Barber, who despite getting better with age, understands the ravages of 10 seasons of pounding.

”It’s not a big window, ever, for a player or a team in this league. For me, I’d say two years, and that’s probably it. I’ll be 33 then and, well, you know.”

So if Tiki Barber fails (knock on wood) to score that NFL Football Super Bowl championship ring before his career is over, what will he do then?

Maybe he’ll be hoisting a head gear and work as an NFL Football analyst, like most has-beens in the NFL these days. Either that or he can also end up as a goddamn politician, for all I care. Well, all them dumb fucks who got booted out of sports and into retirement resort to politics anyway.

Whatever is next for one Tiki Barber, he will be running, be it running his own business or perhaps, running for public office. He is after all STILL one of the best running backs in NFL Football. He better run for a Super Bowl title soon because his time is RUNNING out.

Can Tiki Barber lead the New York Giants and win Super Bowl XLI in Miami, Florida? Visit and bet on Bodog today.

New York Giants 18/1

Seattle Seahawks 11/1

Pittsburgh Steelers 10/1

Terrell Owens won’t be Talking Smack for a while

August 25, 2006 at 8:59 am (Uncategorized)

Yep, even the largest and foulest mouth in NFL Football shuts the fuck up.

Well, aggravating a hamstring injury will do that to anyone anyway. Even if it is someone like Terrell Owens. Hmm… Looks like all that promise within the Dallas Cowboys camp will vanish in thin air eh?

Terrell Owens claims he aggravated his left hamstring injury by returning to practice too soon. Well, T.O. talks a lot of shit anyway but THIS time, it seems you can’t smell any bullshit coming out of Owens’ mouth.

Terrell Owens said, ”I just tried to compromise with some people, just try to be around the team and get back out there. It just flared up again.” He adds, ”Just because the MRI doesn’t show anything, that doesn’t mean that I’m not hurting.”

He he… Terrell Owens is REALLY hurting. Well, too damn bad.

”At this point, yeah, I will be close to 100 percent before I get back on the field,” Owens said. ”I’m not going to jeopardize my health just because of speculation or anything like that.”

”It’s frustrating, but it’s not where I need it to be to play and perform like I need to. So at this point, I’m going to be smart about it,” Owens added.

Well, even without Terrell Owens, it looks like the Dallas Cowboys are doing fine without him anyway.

His absence has forced more balls to be thrown to the unproven players fighting for backup jobs, and that’s helped the Dallas Cowboys coaches sort through one of the team’s biggest concerns of the preseason.

Undrafted rookie Sam Hurd and returning practice squad member Jamaica Rector seem to have taken the most advantage. After showing enough in practice to earn playing time with starting quarterback Drew Bledsoe, both fit in well with the Dallas Cowboys’ preseason scheme of things.

Can Terrell Owens lead the Dallas Cowboys to Miami, Florida and win Super Bowl XLI? Sports Interaction has the outright odds on some NFL Football teams on who might just do that.

Dallas Cowboys 15.00

Indianapolis Colts 7.00

Seattle Seahawks 11.00

Pittsburgh Steelers 11.00

Before Big 12 College Football Season Starts

August 25, 2006 at 8:48 am (Uncategorized)

Yep, we can’t seem to get enough of the Big 12 Conference.

After all, it IS the home of the defending NCAA College Football BCS Champions, the Texas Longhorns. And yep, the Longhorns still are the guys to beat as far as NCAA College Football is concerned.

The Longhorns won’t have a Vince Young back at QB. Of course, you already know that. The Texas Longhorns won’t be the same without him. And yup, Big 12 won’t be either.

A few weeks ago, I already told you just some of the teams within the Big 12 Conference that will be looking to shatter the Longhorns’ stranglehold of the conference. Yup, they sure were some big things for Big 12 NCAA College Football.

Now, as the opening kickoff for the brand new NCAA College Football season draws near, here are just some more things to look forward to. I’m telling you how it is, Big 12 Conference is the one to watch this season.

Adrian Peterson is the obvious choice for Big 12 MVP this season, but not even the best running back in the nation can be effective when the offense has no other credible threat. Does that make former Oklahoma quarterback Rhett Bomar the conference’s defensive MVP?

Colorado will struggle in its transition to Dan Hawkins’ offense. The Big 12 Conference North will belong to Nebraska. But with Mason Crosby kicking a record-breaking 70-yard field goal, the Buffs will win enough to go to a bowl game.

The most interesting transition in the league is not Hawkins at Colorado or Ron Prince at Kansas State. It’s Guy Morriss’ decision to switch to the spread offense at Baylor. All-American punter Daniel Sepulveda had better limber up that leg.

Will NCAA College Football see a Big 12 Conference football team win the BCS National Championship? Here are some odds from Bodog:

Texas Longhorns 8/1

Texas Tech Red Raiders 100/1

Texas A&M Aggies 100/1

Oklahoma Sooners 6/1

Next Step for Tom Brady and the Patriots in NFL Football

August 25, 2006 at 8:47 am (Uncategorized)

No matter what, Tom Brady has the New England Patriots singing, ”I will survive” in NFL Football.

Yep, no matter what kind of injuries and defections fate throws at them, the New England Patriots will just keep on coming back. Well, that is if Tom Brady continues to run the show.

The New England Patriots dominated the Arizona Cardinals in an NFL preseason game, and if that game was a preview of the 2006 New England Patriots offense ran by Tom Brady, then may God help the rest of NFL Football.

And I’m not even over hyping things here.

With or without Deion Branch, a man yet to report as he is still holding out for a new contract, the New England Patriots showcased their offense against the Arizona Cardinals, an offense that could very well be worth the price of admission already.

And Tom Brady will certainly make sure that statement holds true.

Asked after the game how he thought the situation would play out, leading man Tom Brady said, ”I don’t know. I didn’t think it would go on this long.”

Tom Brady had just completed 15 of 20 pass attempts for 149 yards in leading the New England Patriots to 13 points in two quarters of work. Whoever is out there with him, Brady finds a way to make it work.

Brady recently stood up for his friend and favorite target, telling SI.com that Deion Branch was the most important player on New England’s offense. We’ll assume Brady was not including himself in that statement. As long as he’s at quarterback, the Patriots could run you and me out there and score points.

Can Tom Brady lead the New England Patriots all the way to Miami, Florida and win Super Bowl XLI? Sports Interaction has the outright odds on that one.

New England Patriots 9.00

Dallas Cowboys 15.00

Seattle Seahawks 11.00

Pittsburgh Steelers 11.00

Barry Bonds is Out of Time in MLB Baseball

August 25, 2006 at 8:30 am (Uncategorized)

Barry Bonds has been dominating MLB Baseball for some time now.

Well, that is if you can call dominance without any MLB Baseball World Series championship ring to show for.

Whatever the controversies that surrounds one Barry Bonds, it is quite clear that wherever Barry Bonds go, the San Francisco Giants will go with him. And of course we all know that steroids will take Barry Bonds wherever he wants.

He he…

The San Francisco Giants became one solid MLB Baseball franchise with Barry Bonds leading the way. They produced the majors’ best MLB regular season record in 2000 and went to the World Series in 2002.

Felipe Alou replaced Dusty Baker as manager in 2003, and it hardly mattered, the San Francisco Giants won 100 games. They finished second in 2004, two games back.

Last season, Barry Bonds began showing signs of wear and tear. Either that or the effect of the steroids he was ”allegedly” taking began wearing out.

The Giants produced their first losing record since 1996, and the feel-good era was over. So was Bonds’ streak of MVP awards. It’s far worse this year, even with Bonds playing regularly again.

Barry Bonds is 42 years old dammit. No wonder it looks as bad as it looks now. Bonds is no longer a dominant player, thanks to father time and a right knee that went under the knife three times last year.

He’s a .250 cleanup hitter who hits a lot of flies to the warning track and no longer scares pitchers into walking him in 38 percent of his plate appearances, as in 2004.

Time is running out for Mr. Barry Bonds and it’s only a matter of time before the guy walks out of MLB Baseball STILL without and MLB Baseball World Series championship ring to show for.

Can Barry Bonds lead the San Francisco Giants to the World Series? Here are some odds from Bodog on some MLB baseball teams and their odds to win it all this year.

San Fransisco Giants 20/1

Boston Red Sox 5/1

Chicago White Sox 9/2

Houston Astros 16/1

New York Yankees 19/2
